About

After many years outside Austria, I continue working as a pediatrician with specialist interest in pediatric palliative care at the University Hospital of Salzburg, my home town. The main domain of work is the busy pediatric emergency department where I care for acutely ill children. My scope of work includes assessment, diagnosis, setting up treatment plans, admission of children to the wards including ICU. I supervise and teach junior doctors in the ED.

Other Thoughts

For a long time a felt challenged and a little bit anxious, when children with complex needs presented to the emergency department. I felt frustrated I could not deliver the care nor meet the expectations of these patients and their families and I decided to train in palliative medicine. Over a four year period I completed two post graduate diplomas in Pediatric Palliative Care/Medicine. Hence my encounters with children and young people suffering from life limiting conditions have become privileged and rewarding moments.

“A taste of Palliative Care” will hopefully give us the opportunity to hear about transition as well. Palliative Care for young people transitioning from pediatric to adult care is demanding and I would be very keen to learn how this – if it is – organized in different parts of the world.

Really looking forward to meeting experts and peers from all over the world.
