About
After obtaining a medical degree in 2015, I started working in inpatient oncological care at Teaching Hospital Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. Due to a lack of general hospital-wide palliative care concept at that time, the responsibility to guide terminally ill oncological patients laid with inexperienced junior doctors. Therefore, I recognized the need for an early integration of palliative care soon after I began my career. Moreover, to do my job professionally, I had to educate myself and adopt trial-error system as the supervision in palliative care was non-existing. In 2018, thanks to private funding, first palliative care teams began to emerge in hospitals throughout the Czech Republic. Since 2019, as my skills improved, I gradually began with outpatient care in clinical oncology, which is now a dominant part of my job. I have a chance to apply all my knowledge in palliative medicine in outpatient care and treat patients according to international standards. I am always thankful for feedback from members of hospital palliative team and healthcare professionals from Hospice of Agnes the Czech in Červený Kostelec. This feedback allows me to see gaps in my education and motivates me to improve my skills. Hence, I enrolled in national palliative medicine educational program this year. My hope for the future is to pass my knowledge to colleagues and personnel interested in palliative care.
