About

Dr. Anjum Joad is a leading expert in palliative care in the State of Rajasthan, India. She established the state’s first comprehensive palliative care center. Subsequently, she has been a leader in many different education, research, and advocacy initiatives focusing on symptom control, standards for palliative care, and end-of-life care.

Key Accomplishments

  • Established Rajasthan state’s first comprehensive palliative care centre in 1997, (ESMO designated centre)
  • Has organized the Certificate Course at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre under the aegis of the Indian Association of Palliative care (IAPC 2007) and Pallium India ( 2013).
  • Has trained doctors and nurses across India in collaboration with EPEC (America)- 2005 -2006, with Pallium India ( India, Muscat, 2014-2015) and Pallium India ( India, Muscat, 2014-2015)
    as faculty for the Asia Pacific Hospice Network (APHN)in India and Bangladesh (2015-2020)
  • Has been instrumental in teaching and training doctors and nurses across the state – through the Non-Communicable diseases programme and National Programme in palliative care (NPPC)from 2013 till date
    • Helped in framing the End- of life care policy for the IAPC,2014
    • Member of the Indian taskforce for National Standards of Palliative Care in India and developed the Minimum Standards Audit tool ,2008, 2017
  • As Master trainer has conducted TOTs for national and state mentors through the National Health Systems Resource Centre to achieve Ayushmann Bharat 2018 goals to deliver palliative care as part of free universal comprehensive primary health care at sub health centres and primary health centres (urban and rural) (2020-2021)
  • Is a member of the APHN Research Committee,2021
